A New Year

A new year, just five days in after a busy December and Christmas time, I have some plans for what I want to do in 2013 and already things are underway.

A new studio set-up and a promise to myself to spend more time making my own work, painting and drawing, it has to be fitted in. These first few days of honeymoon period are relatively easy but wait until “normal” sets in. I need to do this for me though, I love drawing, making, painting, building, creating, reading, sitting, listening, seeing but find it hard to legitimise that the time is okay to be for me, leave the laundry, house cleaning, forget responding immediately to emails and texts and take time to make a plan and remember who I am.

Remember the things I like to do, it’s going to be a different year from any I have had so far, Twin 1 and Twin 2 now are older (hence less photos of them), the house feels more like a youth hostel as they seem to move around as a mini tribe with at least another teenager or two or more with them, confusingly sharing clothes and I often find the laundry (yes laundry again) containing unrecognisable items. But I like their life wandering in and out and it’s a taste of the future for me and him.

So right now I am working on more illustrations for the book, a drawing project and some paintings planned, I need a plan to hide the knits from the incoming teens (it’s not just the girls, it’s the boys that “borrow” them too) and there is a new one just finished, The Old Yellow Lapin, that already has been noted by them.

I may have to hide it..

you absolutely MUST make time for yourself and your creativity and can’t wait to see what you come up with. The washing can wait…Love your new timepiece and Old Yellowed Lapin. It’s going to be a good year…

Well you know which picture I’ve been drooling over don’t you?! I remember, a few years’ ago now, I started a course in Interior Design. On the first day, we were given some instructions, to make a collage or something and we had to use paint and pens as a starting point. I nearly burst into tears because I just couldn’t get out of me what I wanted to. My tutor was great, I chose a colour, I made a mark and I knew I had to let go. She said we should feel as if we were children and just do it! It is a wonderful feeling designing, creating etc…I feel guilty just looking out of the window so understand how you feel, but of course we need to make some time for ourselves. We’re nicer people to live with if we do….
